What is Video Noise Remover?

Video Noise Remover is a free online tool to remove background noise from video and from audio files. It keeps the voices and takes out the rest: wind, traffic, air conditioner and fan hum, hiss, crowd chatter and light room echo. Videos come back in the same format with the picture untouched, so they drop straight back into your editor.

How it works

  1. Choose a video or audio file (MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV, MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG or FLAC), or drop it on the box.
  2. The noise remover loads once (about 24 MB) and cleans the sound on your own device. On a recent computer an hour of audio takes about two to three minutes; older computers and phones are slower.
  3. Switch between Original and Cleaned to compare, then download the cleaned file.

Your file is never uploaded. The cleaning runs in your browser with DeepFilterNet3, an open-source speech enhancement model. While you compare and download, the cleaned file is kept in your browser's own storage. It is deleted when you pick another file or leave the page; if the browser closes before that, the copy is cleared the next time you use the tool, once it is a day old.

What you get back

  • Videos keep their format and their picture. The video stream is copied as it is, not re-encoded, so there is no quality loss and no watermark. Only the sound track is replaced.
  • Audio files come back as M4A (AAC), which every editor, phone and podcast host accepts.
  • The cleaned sound is mono. That is normal for speech: a voice recorded on one microphone sounds the same on both sides anyway.

When it works best, and when it doesn't

It is built for voices: vlogs, interviews, lectures, podcasts, online classes, voice-overs and phone clips recorded outside. Steady noise like hum, hiss, fans and traffic comes out almost completely. Wind and crowd noise drop a lot. Heavy echo in a big hall gets lighter but does not disappear.

Because it keeps speech and removes everything else, background music gets turned down too. Don't use it on music videos or singing.

Free and Pro

Files up to 10 minutes are free, as many as you like, with no sign-up. Longer files, up to 3 hours, need Pro: 1 credit per minute of the file, only charged after the file is cleaned. See pricing for plans. Long files are also cleaned in your browser, so use a computer for them and keep the page open until it finishes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Video Noise Remover free?

Yes. Files up to 10 minutes are free, as many as you like, with no sign-up and no watermark. Longer files, up to 3 hours, use Pro credits: 1 credit per minute of the file, charged only after the file is cleaned.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The noise is removed in your browser on your own device, and the cleaned file is kept in your browser's own storage while you compare and download. It is deleted when you pick another file or leave the page; if the browser closes before that, the copy is cleared the next time you use the tool, once it is a day old. If you use Pro, our server only sees your account, your credit balance and how long the file is, to charge the right number of credits.

Will it change my video quality?

No. The video stream is copied as it is, not re-encoded, and the file keeps its format (MP4, MOV, WEBM or MKV). Only the sound track is replaced with the cleaned one.

Will it remove background music?

It turns music down along with other noise, because it keeps speech and removes everything else. That makes it a poor fit for music videos or singing.

Why is the cleaned audio mono?

The noise remover works on a single channel, which is how speech is usually recorded anyway. Audio files come back as M4A; videos keep their own format with a mono sound track.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes for short clips in a recent Safari or Chrome. Keep the page open and the screen on while it runs. For files longer than about 10 minutes, use a computer: phones are slower and can run out of memory.
